Meet Teresa Winstead of Verve Fit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Winstead.

Teresa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After completing a PhD in England and moving back to the Boston area to teach around 13 years ago, I decided to start a lifestyle fitness company that would help busy people fit exercise and activities into their lives in a reasonable, fun way.

Over a decade later, Verve Fit has grown into a popular in-home training business that also specializes in guided sport and preparation for every activity from skiing to golf. The Verve Fit philosophy is to make fitness a fun, rewarding endeavor that enriches life through strength, flexibility, skill-building, and greater energy- hence, the meaning of Verve- abundant energy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting a business is never a smooth road; there are always bumps along the way. The fitness industry is particularly marred with potholes, because of the myriad, often harmful, fads that I’ve had to help clients navigate. Someone always wants to run a marathon without first running a mile or wants to lose 30 pounds in 3 weeks- neither of these scenarios are safe or doable.

Over the years, I’ve worked to rise above the white noise of the health and fitness industry to target an educated clientele that is seeking to accomplish goals through progression, consistency, and hard work.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Verve Fit – what should we know?
Verve Fit specializes in providing in-home personal training services in the Boston metro area. The Verve philosophy is that you don’t need a state-of-the-art gym or several hours of the day to attain your fitness goals. Instead, most people need guidance on how to optimize the time they devote to their fitness and health-related goals.

Verve Fit personal training services allow you to achieve your fitness goals, whatever they may be, in the convenience of your own home or office and on your own terms.

Let Verve Fit help you:

  • Define realistic, actionable goals
  • Create a customized fitness plan
  • Make exercise fun and convenient
  • Produce a more fit and energetic you!

Verve Fit also offers assistance with the creation of in-home or in-office gyms.  Periodically, Verve Fit also facilitates trips with clients who share the same interests, such as skiing, scuba, etc.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve had many mentors along the way, from coaches in my collegiate endeavors as a heptathlete to martial arts instructors who shaped how I carry myself in the world. And, all of my clients have taught me many lessons about friendship, mentorship, life choices, and perseverance in the midst of physical and emotional hardship! I am truly blessed to surround myself with such smart, giving people!
